Gunter Schlierkamp was born on November 12, 1969, in Lünen, Germany. He began bodybuilding at the age of 16 and quickly rose through the ranks, winning the German Junior Championships in 1989. Schlierkamp made his professional debut in 1993 and went on to win the Night of Champions in 1994 and the Arnold Classic in 1997.

Schlierkamp is known for his massive physique and his incredible strength. He has been featured in numerous magazines and has appeared on the covers of Flex and Muscle & Fitness.
