John Grimek Then
John Grimek was born on June 17, 1910, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, United States. He was the son of Slovak immigrants. Grimek began lifting weights at the age of 14 and quickly developed a passion for bodybuilding.
In 1939, Grimek won the Mr. America title for the first time. He won the title again in 1940 and 1941. In 1948, he won the Mr. Universe title.
Grimek was known for his incredible strength and muscular development. He was also a pioneer in the field of bodybuilding nutrition. Grimek developed a high-protein diet that helped him to build muscle and maintain his physique.
Grimek retired from competitive bodybuilding in 1951. He continued to train and lift weights throughout his life. Grimek died on November 20, 1998, at the age of 88.
