Darian Yates: Then

Darian Yates was born on April 19, 1962, in Walsall, England. He had a troubled childhood, growing up in poverty and experiencing abuse. In 1986, Yates won the British National Championships. This victory qualified him for the Mr. Olympia competition, the most prestigious bodybuilding event in the world. Yates placed 12th in his first Olympia appearance. He continued to improve, placing 7th in 1988 and 2nd in 1989.

In 1990, Yates won his first Mr. Olympia title. He went on to win the title five more times, in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1996. Yates retired from competitive bodybuilding in 1997. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time.

Yates is married to Deborah Yates. The couple has two children, a son named Lewis and a daughter named Olivia.
