Marcus Ruhl was born on February 22, 1972, in Darmstadt, Germany. He began lifting weights at the age of 16 and quickly developed a passion for bodybuilding. In 1995, he won the German National Bodybuilding Championships and earned his IFBB pro card.

Marcus Ruhl made his professional bodybuilding debut in 1996. He quickly rose through the ranks, winning the Arnold Classic in 1999, 2000, 2002, and 2004. He also placed in the top five at the Mr. Olympia competition several times.
