Hannie van Aken was born on April 21, 1960, in the Netherlands. She began her bodybuilding career in the early 1990s. In 1993, she won the Ms. Olympia competition, becoming the first Dutch woman to do so. She went on to win the Arnold Classic in 1995 and the Ms. International competition in 1996.
Van Aken retired from bodybuilding in 1999. She has since worked as a personal trainer and nutritionist. She has also appeared in several fitness magazines and videos.
