Hannie van Aken Then
Hannie van Aken was born on August 21, 1959, in the Netherlands. She began bodybuilding in 1980, and quickly rose through the ranks of the sport. In 1983, she won the Ms. Olympia competition, becoming the first Dutch woman to win the title. She went on to win the Ms. Olympia competition again in 1984 and 1985.
Van Aken’s bodybuilding career was not without its challenges. In 1986, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy, and was able to return to competition in 1987. She retired from bodybuilding in 1990, but returned to the sport in 1994. She competed in the Ms. Olympia competition again in 1995 and 1996, but did not place.
Van Aken is married to bodybuilder Lex Luger. They have two children.

Hannie van Aken Now
