Désiré Doué then and now

Désiré Doué Then and Now

The Allianz Arena on the night of 31 May 2025 felt like it was tilted toward one goal. Paris Saint-Germain had spent a decade and a fortune trying to buy European nights like this, and here they were — finally — arriving not with a galaxy of superstars but with a 19-year-old from Angers gliding through Inter Milan’s defence. Twice he scored. Once he laid it on a plate for Achraf Hakimi. When the whistle went on a 5–0 demolition, the largest margin in Champions League final history, Désiré Doué walked off with the man-of-the-match trophy and a place in the record books.

A Desired Gift

Désiré Nonka-Maho Doué was born on 3 June 2005 in Angers, France. His name told his story before he did: Désiré means “desired”; Doué means “gifted.” Football ran through the family — his older brother Guéla is a professional defender, his cousins all became professionals. When Guéla was invited to trial for the Rennes academy, five-year-old Désiré tagged along doing keepy-ups on the sidelines — and the coaches signed both boys.

The Rennes Crucible

Doué joined the Stade Rennais academy in 2011, at age five. His first-team debut arrived in August 2022; within days he had scored his first senior goal — becoming the first player born in 2005 to score in one of Europe’s top-five leagues. Over two seasons he made 57 league appearances. In the summer of 2024, PSG — newly rebooted after Kylian Mbappé’s departure, committed to youth over galacticos — signed him for a reported €50 million.

The Season That Changed Everything

On 31 May 2025, PSG faced Inter Milan in the Champions League final. Twelve minutes in, Doué squared for Hakimi’s opener. Eight minutes later he scored for 2–0. In the 63rd minute he finished again. PSG won 5–0. At 19 years and 362 days, Doué became the first teenager ever to score a brace in a Champions League final. He took man of the match, then UEFA Champions League Young Player of the Season, Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year, and on 4 November 2025, the Golden Boy award.

The Double

The 2025–26 campaign killed any danger of a one-off: seven league goals, five assists, Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year again — and PSG defended the European Cup, beating Arsenal in the final on penalties to become back-to-back Champions League winners. At 21, Doué was a double European champion.

Les Bleus

Doué won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship with France in 2022, starred at the Paris 2024 Olympics (silver medal), and made his senior debut in March 2025. In the summer of 2026, Deschamps named him in France’s World Cup squad — he started regularly before a tactical switch for the semi-final against Spain, which France lost.

The Now

PSG’s 2026–27 season opened with a stumble, and summer signing Ferran Torres briefly seized Doué’s starting place. Luis Enrique was unequivocal: “As usual, he’s an incredible player. A real pleasure to have him with his mentality.” In France’s 1–0 win over Belgium in September, Doué was so dazzling a former Belgian coach said it felt like watching “Michael Jordan.”

The Gift, Still Unwrapping

A five-year-old doing keepy-ups at his brother’s trial; the first 2005-born scorer in Europe’s top-five leagues; a €50 million teenager; a 19-year-old rewriting Champions League final history; a 20-year-old Golden Boy; a 21-year-old double European champion and World Cup semi-finalist. Munich was not the peak — it was the announcement.
