Lars Nootbaar was born on September 8, 1997, in El Segundo, California. He attended El Segundo High School, where he played baseball and football. Nootbaar was a standout baseball player in high school, and he was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 12th round of the 2016 MLB draft.
Nootbaar signed with the Angels and began his professional baseball career in the Angels’ minor league system. He spent the 2016 season with the Orem Owlz of the Rookie-level Pioneer League, and he batted .280 with 2 home runs and 21 RBIs in 57 games. In 2017, Nootbaar played for the Burlington Bees of the Class A Midwest League, and he batted .291 with 6 home runs and 59 RBIs in 128 games.
Nootbaar continued to progress through the Angels’ minor league system in 2018 and 2019. He played for the Inland Empire 66ers of the Class A-Advanced California League in 2018, and he batted .285 with 11 home runs and 65 RBIs in 125 games. In 2019, Nootbaar played for the Mobile BayBears of the Class AA Southern League, and he batted .288 with 15 home runs and 78 RBIs in 129 games.
Competitive History
Nootbaar was a member of the United States national baseball team that won the silver medal at the 2018 WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup. He also played for the United States team at the 2019 Pan American Games, where he won a gold medal.
Life History
Nootbaar is the son of Jeff and Lisa Nootbaar. His father is a former professional baseball player, and his mother is a former college basketball player. Nootbaar has two older brothers, Jeff Jr. and Kyle.
Nootbaar is married to his wife, Alyssa. The couple has one child, a daughter named Harper.
Lars Nootbaar Now
Nootbaar made his MLB debut with the Cardinals on August 28, 2021. He appeared in 23 games for the Cardinals in 2021, and he batted .279 with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs.
Nootbaar spent the 2022 season with the Cardinals’ Triple-A affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds. He batted .332 with 14 home runs and 69 RBIs in 103 games for the Redbirds.
Nootbaar was recalled to the Cardinals in September 2022, and he appeared in 18 games for the team. He batted .286 with 3 home runs and 11 RBIs in those games.
Nootbaar is currently a member of the Cardinals’ 40-man roster. He is expected to compete for a starting outfield spot in 2023.
