Jorma Räty Then

Jorma Räty was born on October 15, 1946, in Helsinki, Finland. He began lifting weights at the age of 15, and quickly developed a passion for the sport. Räty competed in his first bodybuilding competition in 1989 and won the Finnish national championship in 1992.

Räty’s international bodybuilding career began in 1993 when he competed in the World Amateur Championships. He placed second in the middleweight class and earned his pro card. Räty went on to compete in the Mr. Olympia competition for the first time in 1996 and placed 15th. He continued to improve his placing in the Mr. Olympia competition each year and finally won the title in 1999.

Räty’s victory in the Mr. Olympia competition was a major upset, as he was not considered to be one of the favorites. However, Räty’s hard work and dedication paid off, and he became the first Finnish bodybuilder to win the Mr. Olympia title.

Räty retired from competitive bodybuilding in 2001 and has since focused on his business interests. He is the owner of a fitness center in Tampere, Finland, and he also has a line of nutritional supplements.
