Garrett Downing was born on August 25, 1988, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He began weightlifting at the age of 15 and quickly developed a passion for the sport. Downing competed in his first bodybuilding competition in 2008, and he quickly rose through the ranks.

In 2010, Downing won the NPC USA Championships, and in 2011, he won the NPC National Championships. These victories earned him his IFBB Pro Card, and he began competing in professional bodybuilding competitions.
