Dick Dubois was born on 4 March 1933 in The Bronx, New York, USA. He began lifting weights at the age of 14 and quickly developed a passion for bodybuilding. Dubois won his first bodybuilding competition in 1972, and he went on to win numerous other competitions, including the Mr. New Jersey title in 1975.

In 1979, Dubois won the Mr. Olympia competition, the most prestigious bodybuilding competition in the world. He was the first bodybuilder to win the Mr. Olympia title without having won the Mr. America title first. Dubois’ victory at the Mr. Olympia competition was a major upset, as he was not considered to be one of the favorites to win.

After winning the Mr. Olympia title, Dubois continued to compete in bodybuilding competitions for several more years. He placed second at the Mr. Olympia competition in 1980 and 1981, and he won the Mr. International title in 1982. Dubois retired from bodybuilding competitions in 1984.
