Ma Huateng, also known as Pony Ma, was born on October 29, 1971, in Chaoyang, Shantou, Guangdong, China.

In 2004, Tencent expanded into online gaming, selling virtual goods and establishing itself as a leader in the digital entertainment industry. The following year, it launched Paipai.com, a C2C platform.
