Jaco De Bruyn was born on October 26, 1963, in Pretoria, South Africa. He began lifting weights at the age of 15, and by the time he was 18, he had won the Mr. South Africa title.
In 1985, De Bruyn moved to the United States to pursue his bodybuilding career. He quickly rose through the ranks, and in 1988, he won the Mr. Olympia title, becoming the first South African to do so.
De Bruyn retired from bodybuilding in 1991, but he has remained active in the fitness industry. He is a successful businessman and author, and he continues to train and compete in bodybuilding competitions.
