Colin Farrell, born on May 31, 1976, in Castleknock, Ireland, grew up in a suburb of Dublin as one of four children. 

His parents, Rita (née Monaghan) and Eamon Farrell had strong ties to football (soccer), with both his father and uncle playing professionally for the Shamrock Rovers. 

Following in their footsteps, Farrell also engaged in the sport during his youth. 

Reflecting on his early aspirations in a 2008 interview with David Letterman, Farrell humorously remarked, “I played until I was about 15 and I thought it was what I wanted to do.

He did some modeling and even auditioned for the Irish boy band Boyzone, though unsuccessfully.
