Nate Archibald, also known as “Tiny,” was born on September 2, 1948, in the Bronx, New York. 

Growing up in the South Bronx’s Patterson housing projects, one of America’s most ravaged neighborhoods, Archibald used his deftness with a basketball to steer clear of the drugs and violence that claimed many of his peers.

Despite his modest grades limiting his college options, Archibald attended Arizona Western Community College before transferring to the University of Texas at El Paso, where he excelled and averaged 20.0 points over three seasons.

Drafted by the Cincinnati Royals in the second round of the 1970 NBA Draft, Archibald quickly made a name for himself. 

In the 1972-73 season, he became the only player in NBA history to lead the league in both scoring (34.0 ppg) and assists (11.4 apg).
