Chris Bumstead was born on February 2, 1995, in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada. He began lifting weights at the age of 15 in order to gain weight and improve his athletic performance in hockey. However, he quickly discovered his passion for bodybuilding and began to focus on developing his physique.
In 2014, Bumstead won the overall title at the Canadian National Bodybuilding Championships. This victory qualified him to compete in the 2015 IFBB World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships, where he placed first in the Classic Physique division.
Bumstead turned professional in 2016 and made his IFBB Pro League debut at the 2016 Toronto Pro SuperShow, where he placed third in the Classic Physique division. He then went on to win the 2017 Vancouver Pro and the 2017 California Pro, qualifying him for the 2017 Mr. Olympia. At the Mr. Olympia, Bumstead placed fourth in the Classic Physique division.
