Markus Rühl Then
Markus Rühl was born on February 22, 1972, in Darmstadt, Germany. He began weightlifting at the age of 16, and quickly developed a passion for the sport. Rühl competed in his first bodybuilding competition in 1994, and won the overall title. He continued to compete in bodybuilding competitions throughout the 1990s, and won numerous titles, including the Mr. Germany title in 1999 and 2000.
In 2001, Rühl made his debut at the Mr. Olympia competition, the most prestigious bodybuilding competition in the world. He placed 13th that year, but continued to improve his placings in subsequent years. In 2005, Rühl won the Mr. Olympia competition, becoming the first German bodybuilder to win the title.
Rühl retired from bodybuilding in 2007, but he remains active in the sport as a coach and commentator. He is also the owner of a line of bodybuilding supplements.
